This story should be illustrated and made into a children’s book. The world needs to learn how to control its anger.

A Buddhist story I really like
July 13, 2007Apartment-sitting for a few days
July 13, 2007A good friend of mine is going to be out of town for a few days, and he wanted me to check his mail and answering machine (expecting a job offer soon).
It was nice of him to think of me and to trust me with the keys to his place. So now I have an extra place to hang out for the next few days, complete with his DVDs, the food in his fridge, and his Nintendo Wii (yes he said it was okay). \(^_^)/
Songs that inspire violence
July 9, 2007Every time I hear Rihanna’s “Umbrella” song I feel like giving Rihanna an impromptu tracheostomy (the way Rachel McAdams’ character did it in Red Eye).
Also that “Lip Gloss” song. Thankfully it doesn’t get as much airplay. But it still drives me batsh*t insane. It’s just lip gloss! Boys don’t even care that you’re wearing it!
Food Network Star update
July 8, 2007I almost didn’t catch this episode because I don’t have a TV, and I was calling around to see if anyone else has Food Network. I lucked out by finding an unlocked door to the apartment complex lounge, giving me access to the DirecTV and giant flat-screen all to myself (muahahaha).
Today was the Iron Chef challenge. Not only did each contestant have to cook a several-course meal with the secret ingredient, in under an hour, each pair of competitors were the commentators for the other pair.
Up first, Paul and Rory, with the secret ingredient of sea bass. Both competitors played to their points of view much better than they had in previous episodes. I had never felt that Rory really had a distinctive style or take on food, but tonight everything seemed to come together for her, and I could see her as the Texas girl with the down-home, yet restaurant-quality cooking — the “Backyard Bistro,” as she calls it (catchy title for a show, too).
Paul was adorable, as usual. And he did a great job playing up his “party cuisine” expertise. I can just picture a show with a Giada-style pool party at the end (but with younger, hipper guests), and Paul bringing out each dish with a great big grin on his face and making things lively and fun.
I guess “walk it off” doesn’t always work
July 6, 2007Ok, so posts have been slowing down lately, I’ll admit. I just don’t have much to talk about, I guess. So I’ll tell you about my doctor’s appointment this week.
On Tuesday I went to the medical plaza about my hip pain, which has been worse lately. (Background info: for about a year, when I cross my legs a certain way or sleep funny, I’ll get this hip pain for about a week or so. My solution was to not do those things, and in the meantime just endure the pain. This past month the pain has been lasting longer and not fully going away.)
My primary care doc was booked that day, so I opted to see a nurse practitioner at the same-day clinic. The nursing student who interviewed me was pretty good, and it was fun to hear her go through the same line of questioning we were all taught this year. “Have you tried anything to make the pain better?” “What makes it worse?” “Does it radiate anywhere up or down your leg?”
As per Murphy’s Law, my symptoms had all disappeared by the time I entered the office, so her physical examination did not bring up any pain. Eventually she went to consult with the NP, who moved my hip around and diagnosed hip flexor strain. Prescription: rest, stretch before exercising from now on, and industrial-strength Motrin 3x/day for a week.
I’m feeling better now that I’m taking the Motrin, and I think the inflammation will stop enough for my muscles to heal.
That’s probably the most exciting thing for this week.
Paul! Choose Paul!

Does anyone else watch “The Next Food Network Star”? I watched four back-to-back episodes yesterday at home. It may be my new favorite show. Drama, cooking, less backstabbing, more brutally honest feedback.
And eye candy. I was rooting for dreamboats Paul and Adrien. But it looks like Adrien was just recently eliminated. So now I’m really gunning for Paul.
I mean, how great would it be to watch a cooking show with this guy? Good looking, fun, confident, great energy, and can cook like a mofo. And he’s gay (I’m pretty sure), so that’s one million bonus points. He would bump Dave Lieberman down to my #2 Food Network crush.
Here’s the official Myspace for him on the show: Paul’s Myspace page
A confession, and a promise
July 3, 2007Think of me what you will, but I recently hooked up through a Craigslist personal ad. Not a personal ad like, “Enjoys long walks on the beach, loves dogs, etc.” More like, “Need to give head now — NSA. You host.”
Anyway, it was not a great experience. We met and did our thing, but his attitude just made me feel crappy afterwards.
And yesterday a friend introduced me to some of the other hookup sites on the internet. As I was browsing through the profiles, I saw my friend from high school (whom I did not know was gay).
This was not how I wanted to find out!
So my promise is that, from now on, I solemnly swear not to browse for, or have, random hookups with anyone. There’s the risk of being outed in an unflattering way, and the sex isn’t even that great for me.
I’m not gonna judge. This is purely a personal preference.
I’m Donna! I get to make it with Josh!
